the four clans - rainclan, snowclan, hailclan, and tornadoclan have been hit severely by a sickness that the medicine cats have dubbed 'the mysterious sickness.' blame hits one clan in particular - rainclan - for not too long ago, they welcomed a loner and his family to their clan. the sickness spread around rainclan, and, before long, the other clans too.
weather, flower, and their kits: fate, destiny, prophecy, and star came to rainclan weak and defenseless. rainclan accepted the family without question, taking note of the burliness of the toms in the family and the swift, gracefulness of the she-cats, thinking that these cats would be noble warriors once they adapted to clan life.
rainclan were wrong.
weather mysteriously died two days after he came there, but no signs of illness had been shown. he seemed to be perfectly healthy, and his death scared the clan. soon, other healthy cats just dropped dead. the sickness spread, and it became a plague. medicine cats couldn't treat it, there were no symptoms to show that a cat had caught the mysterious sickness. almost all the clans were wiped out.
back in rainclan, flower, weather's mate, had been executed in fear that she would contradict more sicknesses and kill even more cats. her kits were shunned from the clan, and star, later starpaw, chose the path of a medicine cat to seek why her family were murderers to so many. starpaw's siblings - brothers prophecypaw and fatepaw, and sister destinypaw - fled to other clans for refuge. snowclan, clueless about fatepaw's background, accepted the tom into their clan. hailclan, clueless as well, took in destinypaw. and tornadoclan had pity on prophecypaw and let him join their clan. before long, the siblings stopped talking to each other, destinypaw, fatepaw, and prophecypaw all afraid that their clan would discover their dark heritage.
the clan medicine cats' faith in dreamclan, their ancestors, is failing rapidly as more cats just mysteriously die. will they find a cure? will a new prophecy save the clans?
after many moons, not many cats still survive the plague. no elders, kits, or senior warriors have been spared of the sickness, and all are dead. the clan leader, deputy, medicine cats, and assorted young warriors, apprentices, and queens all live in fear, thinking they could be the next to die.
soon, a prophecy is sent from dreamclan:

'in order to save the clans, weather's kin must bond again. destiny, fate, prophecy, and star, their paths will pave yours. beware of the weather, seek peace. and soon, the plague will be gone.'

destinypaw, fatepaw, and prophecypaw's fear comes true - the clans know that their father was sickness-bringer weather. the leader of each clan instantly sends them on their journey, but starpaw's destiny is harder. she's clan medicine cat, and it isn't easy to leave her personal fate on a journey, trekking off to find peace. eventually, she leaves...and, with her siblings, they set off...looking for peace.
