I will tell you the ancient story....
"During the early millennia of the earth's long life, a grand creature ruled in utter chaos. The reptiles, the dinosaurs, were the first great creatures of the earth. Their reign seemed unstoppable, but as the world grew, nature was forced to move on, these creatures were not of perfection, were not what she sought.
They were not right for her earth. She had much more to do to find the creature she needed buried deep within the genes of those that already roamed her earth.
Nature continued her work, searching for the perfect beings to reign over her perfect creation; the earth. Her work was slow and despite her decision to wipe the slate clean after the dinosaurs, she allowed some to linger, the smaller of the species. All the while she molded some of the animals that had lived under the reptiles into unrecognizable beings greater than they were before.
The earth was introduced to the mammal. Her work ebbed when her manipulations gave birth to Mankind. She had found her perfect ruler of her perfect world.
She had grown accustomed to her work though and so she turned back to some of her oldest creations; the reptile. As the centuries passed and man surpassed her expectations her work continued. She even used man to force along some of her creations. She was proud of mankind and so she decided that the reptiles could simply become a part of man's society.
Before her work could gain much ground, mankind's true essence revealed itself. They were beyond her control, twisted by their perfection, into monsters. This was not her dream for her perfect world. Mankind was turning against its home, destroying some of her most beautiful creations.
And so she rose up against them, with all her force.
A force that even Mankind could not escape, could not thwart, could not fight. They were destroyed within the century. Disease, famine, war, nothing had prepared them for the fury that was Nature.
And that is where we came in. The Reptilia. We have been given our chance yet again, to prove that this is our purpose. We are not perfect, and thus we have respect for our perfect mother and the world she created for us. It was always us that was meant for the earth, meant to care for her, meant to love her and bring her to her glory.
But now, we have become divided. Nature's plans lay stagnant, her manipulations continue as always, but we hinder ourselves now. Lines have been drawn. It seems the cycle is to repeat. War threatens us at each turn, as it once did man. This is the beginning of the end for us. We thus threaten to destroy our own future.
Perhaps there is still hope, perhaps harmony is within our grasp.....Perhaps war grows too near...."

The complete plot can be found at Reptarium
The Crocodilia tend to have hot tempers, that they never learn to control. There are individuals who defy the normalcy of the anger that seethes in there brethren but they are rare. [The Evil]
The Testudines tend to grow wise very quickly and a temper is not something they ever acquire. There are those of this kingdom that tend to have a free spirit, but the wisdom of their genes runs beneath the surface. [Beyond Good and Evil, if anything they are the Quintessential Neutrals of the land.]
The Squamata often find themselves dancing a line. Their hot tempers and utter calm are often in a constant struggle for balance. Whichever side of the line they tend to land on more often the other side could always lure them back. [The Neutral]
The Sphenodontia are the gentlest of them all. Their hearts run pure and strong and are incorruptible. [The Good]
Of course individuality is unavoidable....
It is now the year 209 A.H. and the Reptilia have grown to be the dominant taxon of the entire plane. Though most live in harmony with Nature's other creatures, there are those that tend to disrupt the balance and claim more than they should. Thus the war that threatens.
